Hak Soo Kim – Tenor
Hak Soo Kim made his Los Angeles Opera debut as El Remendado in Carmen earlier this season. A first year member of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, he also sang the First Priest in Die Zauberflöte and will return later this season as Gastone in La traviata, in which he will also cover the role of Alfredo. Recently, as a member of Opera Colorado’s Outreach Ensemble, he performed Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola and Alberto in Robert Xavier Rodríguez’s La Curandera. As a featured artist at the 2008 National Performing Arts Convention in Denver, he sang excerpts from John Adam’s new opera A Flowering Tree and Allan Gilliland’s Hannaraptor in the Opera New Works series. In the summer of 2006, he appeared at Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Singer performances as Matteo in Arabella and Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.Mr. Kim graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in German and wrote his thesis on German post-unification literature at Eberhard Karls Universität in Tübingen, Germany. At Northwestern, he performed Fenton in Falstaff and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. As a concert artist, Mr. Kim sang the tenor soloist role in Stravinsky’s Les Noces with Monmouth Civic Chorus. In the 2008 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Mr. Kim was the second place winner of the Rocky Mountain Region. He is a student of Dr. Julian Kwok in New York City.
